ON THE HIGHEST PEAK OF GRAN CANARIA – ROQUE NUBLO
I would say we were quite lucky with the weather on our previous hikes, for example on the highest peak of Tenerife (whole post about it here: https://majalampe.com/2018/07/27/on-the-highest-peak-of-spain-el-teide-3718m-and-getting-mountain-sickness/) as well as on the highest peak of Madeira ( whole post about it here: https://majalampe.com/2019/07/16/a-hike-to-the-highest-peak-of-madeira-pico-ruivo/). This time luck was not on our side haha, but we still had a great time, since it was not just about the destination but we enjoyed the whole experience. I have to admit we did not pay a lot of attention to the weather forecast, but just picked a random day to go to the mountains instead. From the coast (where we stayed) the weather…

CHASING LAST WARM AUTUMN DAYS AT ZELENICA
Autumn hikes and photos have really become one big hit of Instagram. Everyone I know (also the ones who never hike) went “out of their comfort zone” and embarked on a hunt for golden/yellow – colored larch trees. I mean it’s admirable if other’s photos motivate you so much, you go hiking yourself, but the question remains – did you go for yourself or for that photo to prove others you’ve been there as well? A few of my friends went to the most popular autumn hiking destination in Slovenia – Slemenova Špica. I used to hike there every autumn (and still do -“out of season”) but not for the…

A HIKE TO THE HIGHEST PEAK OF MADEIRA: PICO RUIVO
Hike to Pico Ruivo is probably on every hiker’s bucket list when visiting Madeira, and that’s exactly how it got on our bucket list as well! The most challenging variable of this hike was of course – the weather. If bad weather conditions previously enabled us to have one of the most famous waterfalls in Madeira to ourselves (read more about it here: https://majalampe.com/2019/06/16/madeira-25-fontes-waterfall/) , it was different this time. The main reason behind our decision to hike on Pico Ruivo were promising views over the whole island, so in case of fog there was no point in going. We would check the weather at Pico Ruivo for the next…

MADEIRA: TREKKING ALONG THE PONTA DE SÃO LOURENÇO PENINSULA.
We have decided to go on this trekking after spending a few days in woods and mountains in the middle of the island. We figured a change of location would be a nice contrast to a foggy and windy heights. If this sounded as a complain over past few days, it was not! Far from it. If you know me at all, you know how much I love woods and I would probably choose foggy woods over a beach 9 times out of 10. Ponta de São Lourenço is situated on the very east point of the island. It’s a barren peninsula with cliffs, and the only way to see it…

HIKE TO NANOS HILL (AND PREPARING FOR A TRIP)
This hike was another very spontaneous decision. After a busy week we were lying in our bed on Friday night, just before falling asleep, when it occured to us – if we sleep in tomorrow, there won’t be much from that day. “Do you want to go somewhere tomorrow?” “You mean, on a trip?” “Sure.” “Well, I am kind of running out of the ideas. I don’t want to go the seaside again, because it gets too crowded on weekends” “Actually, I had something different in mind. Maybe something more active. Want to go for a hike, I was thinking about Nanos?” “Great, Nanos it is!” That’s exactly how we…
