To break off this suddenly “mountain-themed” blog of mine, I wanted to share some photos and tips on what to do and what to see if you find yourself visiting the cosmopolitan Lago di Como.
As I have mentioned in my previous posts I wanted to visit Lago di Como for quite some time now, probably since I have seen the movie The other man (2008) and since George Clooney invited me to visit him at his villa haha. I mean how could I say no?
Putting the joke aside, arriving to Lago di Como straight from the Dolomites, was a nice counterbalance. From the mountains and a cutest cabin to the beautiful lake with luxurious villas and gardens.
So where to stop and which places to see?
As you may know, Lago di Como is an enourmous lake with numerous little villages and towns around it. The biggest and the one that the lake got the name after is Como, situated in the southern part of the lake. We did not explore it, just drove through it and decided to leave it out.
We wanted to see smaller and more authentic towns instead, with those typical villas and gardens. The three main towns we have explored quite a bit are Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna. They are probably the main attractions at Lago di Como, but they do justice to their beauty.
How to get around?
The best and by far the most convenient means of transport is ferry. The whole time spent by Lago di Como, we did not need our car, but moved around only by ferry. There are regular departures from every town mentioned before and good connection between them, so there is no need to worry that you will get stuck somewhere.
Lago di Como is a perfect place to chill , relax and just enjoy your life. That’s exactly what we did and it felt extra good , after being pretty active in the Dolomites. It really is an amazing place, no wonder George Clooney decided to buy his summer house there.
