TENERIFE: THE ANAGA MOUNTAINS

The majority of people who come to Tenerife come for 2 things: to surf and to enjoy the beach life. But not us, haha. We decided to drive to the very northern part of the island to explore the Anaga mountains. Well there are more woods than mountains if you ask me, but that’s how that part of the island is called – Anaga mountain park.

We took off early in the morning, left the sunny side of the island behind and trade it for the windy and foggy weather. I bet some would call us “crazy” or “why would you go to the foggy woods if you can stay at he sunny beach all day?” –  but hey, we wanted to explore the woods.

So we left the sun behind and Northern part hit us with clouds, wind and fog. We parked our car in the woods and decided to hike for a bit. This woods are actually jungle / true rain forest and they were one of the most beautiful woods we have ever seen. The trees were so beautiful and picturesque, as someone would draw them. I felt like we were in a movie or fairytale.

After a good hour of walking, we returned to car and decided to drive the rest of the Anaga park. The winding road took us through the woods at first, then along the ridge where it surprised us with some incredible views. The nature differed from the rain forest to almost barren land with cactuses and some other individual plants. The drive was quite long, due to numerous sharp turns. We followed the road, wherever it took us, and behind every turn , there were even more amazing views over the island and sea.

Now as I look back, this was probably my favourite day spent in Tenerife. Hiking in a beautiful forest, driving through the northern part of the island that felt like jungle and returning to the sea at the end – it was just ahhhh – REALLY AMAZING!

This was more of a hiking/woods themed post, which actually fits my mood right now. We are heading to the mountains tomorrow and will spend 5 days there. We will do some hiking (obviously), cycling and will basically enjoy the nature and waking up in the middle of the forest every day. I am looking forward to this “retreat” so much and since this week’s weather says it will be sunny and warm, well that’s just a cherry on top!
