Some of you asked me to share my personal “Top things to do in Amafi coast” or if you prefer “What to do and what to see”.
Therefore I decided to collect everything you should do while visiting and a few tips, in one post.
1 – SORRENTO
When visiting Amafi coast, one of the “must” stops is Sorrento. Have a nice lunch in of a numerous Italia restaurants. Later on, take a walk through Sorrento’s most crowded shopping street, where you can find basically anything – from cute souvenirs, to clothes, handbags to cosmetics and food. Name it – and you will find it there.
In case you decide staying in Sorrento, be sure to book a hotel or apartment that offers beautiful views over the sea and is situated up on a hill, so your only view won’t be just other buildings. Therefore your stay will be much nicer and special.
You can read all about Sorrento here:
2 – ROADTRIP ALONG AMALFI COAST
Despite the fact that it might be a lot of traffic, road trip along the coast is a must. Endless views over cliffs and the sea will accompany you throughout the entire ride.
3 – POSITANO AND AMALFI
Positano is definitely one of the most “wanted” places in Amafi coast. Take a walk through this charming town and enjoy some breathtaking views. Remember there will be a lot of steps and walking down and up the hill.
More about Positano and Amalfi read here: POSITANO AND AMALFI
4 – AVOID VISITING AMALFI COAST DURING HIGH TOURIST SEASON
If possible avoid visiting Amalfi coast during high tourist season (june-august). First of all, prices tend to rise during summertime. Since Amalfi coast is a very popular destination, it gets very crowded during the high tourist season. Last but not least, during summer temperatures are pretty high and trust me, you don’t want to spent too much time just looking for a shadow, because there is too much to do and to see.
5 – POMPEII
Staying in Sorrento or Napoli Pompeii is only a train ride away, that’s the easiest and quickest way to get there. Pompeii is preserved ancient Roman city and definitely one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization. The site is huge, so be prepared to walk a few hours. It usually gets pretty crowded, so be sure to come as early as possible. Further more it gets really hot because of all the stones , so make sure you wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.
6 – BOAT RIDE TO CAPRI ISLAND
Visiting Capri should be on the top of your “to do in Amalfi coast list”. Capri is only a 25 min boat ride away, but I assure you, you will be pleasantly surprised by its beauty and uniqueness.

7 – ENJOY THE FOOD AND WINE
Taste the real Italy through food and wine. Dine in local restaurants, try some of their specialities and drink wine. If you are not familiar with wines, ask for their help and they will gladly recommend which wine goes best with the dish you have ordered.
8 – HIKE ON MOUNT VESUVIUS
Mount Vesuvius is not situated exactly on Amalfi coast ( same as Pompeii), but if you love to hike and want to see the Italian coast from a bit different perspective – hiking up the volcano should be on your list.
Visiting Vesuvius was the only thing we’ve left out. That is not a bummer at all, at least now I have an excuse to return to Amalfi coast soon!
