Recently my mom celebrated her birthday and this year I wanted to surprise her with something special, something she would always remember.
She wanted to go hiking to Val Rosandra for a few years now, but never managed to realise those plans. So I came up with the idea of surprising her and take her hiking.
Val Rosandra is a valley, or rather gorge, just a few kilometres from Trieste. It is located near the border between Slovenia and Italy, but it’s still on Italian side. You can find various hiking trails and basically choose the length and difficulty of the trail. There are also a lot of options to climb. We chose a trail that consisted of everything, so there were a few moderate and a few a bit steeper ascents, nothing too serious though.
We descended down to the beautiful waterfall and even lower to the river which runs through forest. At the end there was a steep climb to the old railway – which was the last part of our hiking path.
We walked through tunnels and came upon some really nice views over Treiste and Adriatic sea. I don’t think I have to additionally emphasize that views were the best part of our hike.
If you are looking for some new hiking destinations – there you have it. I would definitely recommend to go to Val Rosandra. Whether you are thinking about it, I advise you to hurry up, otherwise it can get pretty hot there soon. There are mainly rocks there after all.
This birthday gift turned out to be even better than the whole idea of it. The weather was perfect and it got really warm, we filled our lungs with fresh air, got a chance to catch up and spend some quality time together. Since I don’t live with my parents any more, we don’t get to spent a lot of time as a family. Even when I come to my hometown, there are always things to do and places to go, which prevents us to hang out as much as we would like to.
Okay, now I am getting really excited about my upcoming posts, since my blog will be full of new travel posts and pictures really soon. I am travelling to Italy in just 3 days! This time to a place that has been on the top of my bucket list for far too long now, so it’s the last time I tick it off. Getting curious? Stay tuned for more.
