We visited New Orleans for the first time in 2009, but managed to stay there for only one full day. We loved it but we were not able to stay there any longer. That’s why this time we wanted to see it properly and decided to stay for three nights.By this time we’ve been travelling for a week and it felt good knowing you’ll be sleeping in the same bed three times.
Driving to the centre of New Orleans is a bit suicidal and nerve wrecking gesture and that’s why we took a cab. It’s faster, not expensive at all and most important you avoid everything that searching for a parking spot in a crowded city brings with.
Walking through French Quarter again after seven years filled me up with memories and it was just a bit emotional. At that point I realized how glad I was to be back in NOLA. (NOLA = New Orleans LouisiAna). Houses with high balconies which are the main attraction of the French Quarter have always fascinated me. I find them … special and sublime.
We finally found the famous Burbon Street or a place where everything happens. Bourbon Street is definitely a place for itself. There are numerous bars and jazz clubs along the street and every place has it’s own music, not to mention all of those street performers. It’s loud as hell! Bourbon Street is sure one of those places where all kinds of people can be found. From average tourists like ourselves, rich guys, junkies, prostitutes, to some random old men dressed into a ballerina (haha that’s a true one!). Just name it and I assure you, you’ll find it in Bourbon Street.
The absolute favourite parf of visiting New Orleans for me was when I managed to find the house where the season Coven from American Horror Story searies was filmed. It’s one of my favourite TV-shows and standing in front of the house where a whole season took place, meant a world to me!
We spent some nice time in New Orleans and maybe not so soon, but i’ll definitely come back! As they say “New Orleans is not just a city, it’s a way of life!”. And thats’ so true! Spending there a few days shows you exactly what they mean by that.
When we were leaving in the morning the radio news reported that two men were shot last night on Bourbon Street around the time we were there. A bit shaken up we were glad that we were still far enough and didn’t hear any gunshots whatsoever. We left New Orleans behind and headed for another long ride. Our next destination was Florida and about that in my next post.
