A HIKE TO THE HIGHEST PEAK OF MADEIRA: PICO RUIVO

Hike to Pico Ruivo is probably on every hiker’s bucket list when visiting Madeira, and that’s exactly how it got on our bucket list as well! The most challenging variable of this hike was of course – the weather. If bad weather conditions previously enabled us to have one of the most famous waterfalls in Madeira to ourselves (read more about it here: https://majalampe.com/2019/06/16/madeira-25-fontes-waterfall/) , it was different this time. The main reason behind our decision to hike on Pico Ruivo were promising views over the whole island, so in case of fog there was no point in going. We would check the weather at Pico Ruivo for the next…

    MADEIRA: VISITING BOTANICAL GARDENS

In my previous post I’ve promised my next one will be about our hike to the highest peak of Madeira, but it’s been a busy week so I am coming to you with a bit less time consuming post. I want to have more time for the post about the hike, I don’t want it to be rushed. To continue the “Madeira series”, one day we’ve visited botanical gardens situated in Funchal, the capital of Madeira. The weather was cloudy, which was perfect for a bit more laid back day. If you follow my blog for some time you might know, regarding to a place we are visiting, we always…

Visiting the “25 Fontes Waterfall” is one of the best memories I have from Madeira. It’s also one of the most known waterfalls in Madeira, therefore it can get really crowded there as well. Taking this into consideration, we intentionally chose…

ROADTRIPPING AROUND THE ISLAND OF MADEIRA

We did not change our sleeping locations, as some do, because the island is small and you can drive the entire island in just few hours. But, don’t let that “the island is small and you can drive the entire island in just few hours “ fool you when deciding how long your vacation in Madeira should be. We were there for 9 days and still left the island with feeling we could have extended for a few days. Such a small island and so saturated with amazing places to see. It’s like someone would collect the most amazing waterfalls, mountains and woods all together and place them on one…

MADEIRA: TREKKING ALONG THE PONTA DE SÃO LOURENÇO PENINSULA.

We have decided to go on this trekking after spending a few days in woods and mountains in the middle of the island. We figured a change of location would be a nice contrast to a foggy and windy heights. If this sounded as a complain over past few days, it was not! Far from it. If you know me at all, you know how much I love woods and I would probably choose foggy woods over a beach 9 times out of 10. Ponta de São Lourenço is situated on the very east point of the island. It’s a barren peninsula with cliffs, and the only way to see it…
